Sever's Disease
Sever’s disease is a heel problem that is the most common cause of heel pain that occurs in children. It is caused by repetitive use and overuse of the heel while it is still growing, therefore is more common in active children and teenagers.
Despite the name, Sever’s Disease like Osgood-Schlatter disease, is caused by overuse and is not a disease.
Symptoms of Sever's Disease
Pain is usually felt at the back of the heel and around the sides of the heel. If you squeeze the back of the heel from both sides simultaneously and pain is experienced Sever’s disease is more than likely present.
Sever's Disease treatment
Orthotic insoles are a common form of treatment for Sever’s disease as they provide support and cushioning to the area which reduces the pressure and stress to the area. Our Podiatrist can also show your child stretches and exercises to help them manage their pain as well offering them advice on their exercise and activity.
